ZAMBOANGA CITY – At least 256 families consisting of 1,205 individuals benefited from the adopt-a-family (Kapwa ko, Sagot ko) program a week after the Police Regional Office (PRO) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) launched the initiative across the region.

The program is PRO-9’s contribution to government efforts in easing the plight of indigent families who have been affected by the disruption of their livelihood amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) crisis.

Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, PRO-9 director, said Thursday the regional headquarters and the Zamboanga City Police have so far distributed relief goods to 90 families, composed of 335 individuals.

Other PRO-9 units also reported their respective relief distributions: the Zamboanga Sibugay Police, 30 families with 95 individuals; Zamboanga del Norte Police, 52 families with 200 persons; Zamboanga del Sur Police, 48 families with 200 individuals; Isabela City Police, 34 families with 160 family members; and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9, a total of 32 families with 115 individuals.

Quidilla said personnel of the Regional Community Affairs Development Division have also distributed relief goods to more or less 100 residents covering indigent families at the relocation sites in Barangay Mercedes here.

Under the adopt-a-family program, he said, the police units in the region are directed to adopt indigent families and provide them with relief goods, such as food packs and other assistance to sustain their daily needs until the quarantine is lifted.

Meanwhile, Quidilla also called on the region’s Good Samaritans who "have more in life, to join the police force and other government agencies in helping the needy during this crisis." (PNA)
