ILOILO CITY – Within two to three days, the new 83-bed isolation facility in this city will be ready to serve patients needing to be quarantined.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas together with officials of the City Health Office (CHO) and the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) inspected the St. Therese MTCC hospital owned by his sister-in-law Theresa Sebastian-Sarabia located along Jalandoni Street in the city proper on Tuesday.

It will be used for Covid-19 confirmed patients who are asymptomatic and for probable cases with mild symptoms.

“We are preparing for our positive cases who are asymptomatic and mild so our hospitals will not be overwhelmed,” he said in a press conference.

He added the patient care center needs a little cleaning and furnishing such as an electric fan for each room.

“But we are praying that no patient will be placed there,” he said.

Treñas also extended his gratitude to Sarabia for allowing the city government to use the facility for free.

Aside from the St. Therese hospital, he added that 50 rooms are also being readied at the University of Iloilo-PHINMA.

Iloilo City, based on its April 20 Covid-19 situation report released by its emergency operation center, has six confirmed cases with one death, 14 patients under investigation and 149 persons being actively monitored.

Currently, the city government has a ready quarantine facility at the Diamond Jubilee Hall, which can accommodate up to 100 probable cases showing mild symptoms. It now caters to the city government’s Covid-19 extraction team.

Moreover, the Technical Institute for Iloilo City (TIIC) Uswag Hall accommodates personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) under quarantine.

Meantime, the Iloilo City Community College (ICCC) Uswag Dorm, with 12 rooms and 120 beds for health workers, doctors, and nurses, is hosting 90 medical front-liners from The Medical City, Qualimed and city nurse.

The M/V Capt. John B. Lacson Vanguard training ship with a ready 200 beds for front-liners and government employees currently accommodates 35 city government front-liners.

The Pius Institute XII that has 250-bed capacity for front-liners from the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has 192 personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The St. Vincent Ferrer Seminary with 200 beds ready for Philippine Army and augmentation for border checkpoints serves as quarters for 35 Army personnel. (PNA)
