CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Health authorities on Wednesday reported three new cases of patients who tested positive for 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

According to the consolidated report from Department of Health Region-10 (DOH-10), state-run hospital Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) and the City Health Office (CHO) said the new cases include a 61-year-old woman admitted to NMMC on May 1 and died four days later due to complications related to pneumonia and acute respiratory illness.

The other two Covid-19 patients are family members of the deceased Covid-19 patient, identified only as "PH6783."

Dr. Joselito Retuya, CHO resident epidemiologist, said the two have been placed in quarantine since PH6783 died on April 18, but they will be transferred to a more secure isolation facility.

"The patients are in stable condition, and they are asymptomatic," he said.

Retuya also reported that the 21-year-old from Barangay Lumbia who met an accident on April 19 and was operated at the NMMC surgical unit died at around 12:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The cause of death was complicated but among them was due to acute respiratory failure, "secondary to Covid-19 infection."

He said the patient's critical condition arising from the vehicular accident "compounded" his medical condition.

As of Wednesday, this city has two active Covid-19 cases, four deaths, and one recovery. (PNA)
