MANILA – Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Ed Monreal on Wednesday confirmed that three personnel detailed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Monreal said he received reports about the NAIA workers infected with Covid-19 from their respective local government units (LGUs).

"Since March, there are already at least three cases reported to us,” Monreal told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Monreal reminded anew the personnel working NAIA and the passengers to always observe safety measures particularly social distancing and good hygiene, such as the washing of hands and use of sanitizers.

He said NAIA staff members have been provided with face masks and personnel protective equipment (PPE) based on the guidelines set by the Department of Health (DOH).

"We have provided them with the tools based on the guidelines of the DOH. Please remember that the enemy is something we do not see, and there is no assurance that one could not get infected," he said.

On Wednesday, the DOH reported 320 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the country’s confirmed cases to 10,004 with 658 deaths. It said 1,506 have so far recovered from the deadly coronavirus. (PNA)
