LEGAZPI CITY – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Albay placed the province under an alert status on Tuesday afternoon as Tropical Depression Ambo approaches.

Albay Gov. Al Francis Bichara, in an interview, said the preparedness status is a preemptive disaster measure meant to ensure the safety of all residents in the province.

“(The) Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that Signal No. 1 (will be) hoisted over Albay on Wednesday as TD Ambo intensifies into a tropical storm, bringing moderate to heavy rains as it hovers (over) the province,” he said.

As this developed, the PDRRMC activated Albay's 18 municipal/city Risk Reduction and Management Offices, directing them to be on full alert and to closely coordinate with PAGASA and the PDRRMO for TD Ambo weather updates.

Bichara also advised the various local disaster councils to effect evacuation of residents in high risk areas in the early morning of Thursday (May 14) with strict adherence to Covid-19 health standard protocols. (PNA)
