Health care workers with Covid-19 now 2,125; recoveries at 669

MANILA – The total number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases among health care workers in the country has reached 2,125, after 58 more persons contracted the disease. 

"Of the total number, 1,421 are active cases. We're happy to report that we have not recorded any death due to Covid-19 among our health care workers yesterday. The total number of deaths among our health care workers is 35," Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a mix of English and Filipino during a virtual presser on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of health care workers who recovered from the disease rose to 669.

As of Tuesday, the DOH reported that the total number of nurses infected with Covid-19 stood at 779, with 642 doctors or physicians, 132 nursing assistants, 73 medical technologists, 40 radiologic technologists, and 221 non-medical staff.

Vergeire noted that the number of health care workers infected with Covid-19 started to drop on April 11.

For the emergency hiring of health care workers, the DOH has received a total of 88 facility requests as of May 12.

"We already have 4,003 slots approved for hiring in 74 hospitals and quarantine facilities, Philippine Arena Covid-19 facility, and QI (Quezon Institute) quarantine facility. We have 1,237 personnel hired in 19 hospitals and quarantine facilities," she said.

Of the total number of hired personnel, about 126 are doctors or physicians; 313 are nurses; 150 are medical technologists, 28 are respiratory therapists; 49 are radiologic technologists; three are medical equipment technicians; 246 are nursing attendants; 44 are administrative assistants; 99 are administrative aides; and 179 belong to other designations.
