ILOILO CITY – The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) 6 (Western Visayas) has confirmed that more than half of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the region were declared recovered.

The region’s Covid-19 recoveries were up by 12 and brought the region’s total recoveries to 54, Dr. Ma. Sophia Pulmones, head of the Local Health Support Division of DOH-CHD 6, said in a virtual presser on Thursday.

The region has a total of 101 Covid-19-positive cases after a 23-year-old male from Banate, Iloilo, and 28-year-old male repatriated overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Bacolod City tested positive for the disease on Wednesday.

The new case in Banate, Iloilo was a traced contact of a 31-year-old male from Zarraga, Iloilo, one of the recent recovered Covid-19 cases. Pulmones said he is currently on facility quarantine.

Thursday’s data of the regional health department was based on the 168 total laboratory results released by the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) sub-national laboratory.

“Fifty-four of these (Covid-19 cases) or 53 percent have already recovered. When we say recover, they already have a resolution of the signs and symptoms. They do not any more manifest signs and symptoms and have negative (results of) confirmatory test or the RT PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction),” she said.

Half of the new recoveries are OFW returnees, Pulmones said.

These include a 26-year-old male from Tigbauan, Iloilo; 42-year-old male from Candoni, Negros Occidental; and 27-year-old male from Buenavista, Guimaras.

Other repatriated OFWs who beat the disease are a 30-year-old male from City Proper district and 28-year-old male from Mandurriao district, all in Iloilo City and 24-year-old male from Nueva Valencia Guimaras.

Meanwhile, the six others who also recovered from Covid-19 include the two females from Lambunao town aged 44 and 32; a 31-year-old male from Zarraga, Iloilo; 49-year-old male from Caluya, Antique; and 48-year-old male and 28-year-old female from this city’s Arevalo and Jaro districts, respectively.
