CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has reported eight new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the province, bringing the total number to 147.
The PHO also said that as of 4 p.m. Thursday, five positive Covid-19 patients have recovered from the dreaded disease for a total number of 57 recoveries.
On the other hand, the fatalities remained at 28.
The new Covid-19 patients are a 33-year-old male, a 20-year-old male, and a 19-year-old female, all from Marilao; a 40-year-old male from Calumpit; and four from Baliwag town -- a 54-year- old male, 22-year-old female, 51-year-old male, and 63-year-old female.
Those who recovered are one from Baliwag, two from Calumpit and one each from the cities of Meycauayan and San Jose del Monte.
The PHO also reported that the province has 1,364 active suspected cases with zero probable case.
Meanwhile, Governor Daniel Fernando, in a news briefing on Thursday night, said there are now six towns in the province that are Covid-19 free -- Angat, Hagonoy, Doña Remedios Trinidad, Pulilan, Plaridel and Bustos.
The three places with the most number of Covid-19 cases are the cities of San Jose del Monte with 22 and Malolos with 17, and the town of Marilao with 17.
Fernando also said the regional Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has already approved his request for enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) extension.
“But we are still waiting for a final resolution coming from national IATF,” he said.
Fernando said he requested for a 15-day extension of ECQ in the province due to the continuing transmission of Covid-19, massive swab testing, and the risk of a second wave of infection.
“I am urgently appealing to the national IATF to allow the province of Bulacan to extend the ECQ until May 31,” he said. (PNA)
