Covid-19 cases in PNP rise to 231

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported 231 confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections among its personnel after 17 more police officers tested positive for the virus.

Brig. Gen. Herminio Tadeo, PNP Health Service (PNPHS) director, said recent test results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) showed the 17 new cases are all assigned in Metro Manila.

As of Saturday, Tadeo said 67 patients out of the 231 cases since March have recovered from the disease, while four have died.

Among these number of cases, 116 patients are in quarantine facilities, seven are admitted in hospitals, and 35 are undergoing home quarantine.

The PNPHS is also monitoring 687 probable cases and 536 suspected cases.

Tadeo said as of Saturday, some 1,728 personnel PNP personnel have completed self or home quarantine under strict monitoring and medical observation.

Meanwhile, the PNP Headquarters Support Service (HSS) will conduct a Camp Crame-wide disinfection and decontamination on May 16-17 before the reentry of personnel starting May 18.

It also advised all offices and units to install portable sink or washbasin and footbaths at entrances so personnel could wash their hands before entering the workplace. (PNA)
