MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Monday said the number of displaced workers due to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is now over 2.7 million.
Data from the agency’s Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) showed the affected workers has reached 2,757,640.
The affected workers are from 102,607 establishments nationwide, as of May 23.
It added that of the number of companies affected, a total of 80,891 establishments employing 1,927,308 workers had adopted temporary closure (TC).
Meanwhile, 23,488 establishments employing 949,873 workers have implemented flexible working arrangements (FWAs).
“About 1,772 establishments adopted both FWAs and TC involving about 119,000 workers,” the BLE added.
Among the affected Industries are: wholesale and retail, accommodation and food service, manufacturing, construction, education, financial and insurance activities, administrative and support service, transportation, and storage.
Meanwhile, DOLE figures showed that the National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the highest number of affected workers at 896,020.
This is followed by Region 3, (Central Luzon) at 295,458; Region 4-A (Calabarzon), 286,630; Region 7, (Central Visayas), 209,033; Region 11, (Davao Region), 205,380; Region 10, (Northern Mindanao), 181,523; Region 9, (Zamboanga Peninsula), 121,786; Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), 90,983.
A total of 88,474 workers were affected in Region 4-B (Mimaropa), Region 5 (Bicol), 79,564; Region 6 (Western Visayas), 73,525; Cordillera Administrative Region, 68,210; Region 8 (Eastern Visayas), 54,592; Caraga Region, 46,779; Region 1 (Ilocos), 32,020 and Region 12 (Soccsksargen), 27,663. (PNA)
