DIGOS CITY – The city health office here has confirmed a new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) case as per the result of the swab sample for RT-PCR laboratory test at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) released on Tuesday.

Dr. Ronald Jumilla, city health officer, said in a phone interview that the patient is a 29-year old male Filipino with no history of travel to identified high-risk areas in the region or anywhere in the country.

Jumilla said the patient is asymptomatic and was placed in the isolation room in one of the hospitals in this city.

The patient was one of the two suspected Covid-19 cases here that was posted on the official Facebook Page of the city government on May 25, the health official said.

The other patient tested negative of the virus through the RT-PCR test that was also released on Tuesday.

Both were admitted to separate hospitals while waiting for the RT-PCR result of their respective swab samples.

Digos City Health Office chief, Milagros Sunga, said contract tracing is being conducted on the people who had close contact with the patient.

The new Covid-19 case is the second in Digos City.

The first COVID-19 case here was a 38-year-old male with travel history to a cock derby in Davao City in March, where several cases have been attributed. The patient was admitted at the SPMC and discharged from the hospital after he fully recovered from the disease. (PNA)
