DUMAGUETE CITY – Twelve locally stranded individuals (LSIs) arrived in Negros Oriental from Aklan on Wednesday aboard the fishing boat FBCA Teresita.

The LSIs disembarked at a port in Tanjay City, about an hour’s drive from this capital, and met by health authorities and front-liners, such as those from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).

Dr. Ana Espos, designated to oversee activities in relation to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Tanjay City, said in a phone interview that of the 12 LSIs, nine are from Tanjay, two from Amlan town, and one from Pamplona town.

Representatives from the local government units (LGUs) of Amlan and Pamplona were on hand to receive their returning residents and bring them to their respective patient care centers for the mandatory quarantine, Dr. Espos said.

The nine LSIs in Tanjay City will also be quarantined at the LGU’s designated patient care center, she added.

Dr. Espos said the LSIs went through safety and health protocols such as disinfecting, however, no throat swab tests were done because they are LSIs.

Philippine Coast Guard personnel were also on hand to help facilitate the disembarkation. (PNA)
