ZAMBOANGA CITY – The number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in this city rose to 155 with one additional positive result from the tests conducted at the Department of Agriculture-Zamboanga City Medical Center (DA-ZCMC) laboratory and released Wednesday.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, chairperson of the local Inter-Agency Task Force on Covid-19, said Thursday that the latest case, known as ZC155, is a 43-year-old female from Barangay Baliwasan, this city.

Salazar said the patient is the mother of ZC145, the 18-year-old male who expired on May 25 due to respiratory failure secondary to congestive heart failure, and had pre-existing medical conditions.

Salazar said ZC155 is asymptomatic but isolated at the city government-owned isolation facility in Barangay Cabatangan.

The mayor said the ZC155’s close contacts, who, along with her, were placed on home quarantine since May 25, are all negative of the virus.

Barangay Baliwasan chairperson Aimee Cabato said Thursday that the lockdown on Ledesma compound, where ZC155 resides, was supposed to end June 7 but was extended until June 17.

Cabato said ZC155 is one of the nine people in the compound who were tested for coronavirus.

Meanwhile, City Health Officer Dulce Amor Miravite said 27 of the 155 Covid-19 positive cases here have already recovered.

She said the majority of the recovered individuals are persons deprived of liberty while the rest were housed in the isolation facilities of the Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (Zamboecozone), city government-owned facility in Barangay Cabatangan and Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC).

Miravite said most of the Covid-19 cases came from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-administered Zamboanga City Reformatory Center. (PNA)
