MANILA – Budget carrier Cebu Pacific has canceled flights to and from General Santos effective Saturday until further notice.

In an advisory late Friday night, the airline said the cancellation is "due to restrictions imposed by the local government."

Earlier, the carrier announced its plan to mount flights between Manila and General Santos on June 5-7.

Flights 5J 995 Manila-General Santos, and 5J 996 General Santos-Manila have been canceled effective Saturday.

Affected passengers may opt for a full refund, or place the ticket value in a travel fund. They may also rebook their flight to a new travel date within three months, with both rebooking fee and fare difference waived.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) earlier appealed to locally stranded individuals not to proceed to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) unless they have confirmed flights.

The MIAA chief expressed concern that the passengers' prolonged stay outside the airport building may pose risks to their health. (PNA)
