4 more ex-Zambo jail inmates positive for Covid-19

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The local Inter-Agency Task Force on coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) said four more former persons deprived of liberty (PDL) have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), pushing the number of cases here to 159.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, chairperson of the local Inter-Agency Task Force on Covid-19, said Saturday the four newly-confirmed cases--ZC156, ZC157, ZC158, and ZC159 --are from the second batch of PDLs released on orders of the court. The batch comprises of 29 PDLs.

They were transferred to the isolation facility of the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority (Zamboecozone) to complete the 14 days quarantine before they will return to the community.

Salazar said their initial Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests were negative but they a retest on the 10th day before they were released to the community found that four of the 29 inmates were positive for the virus.

Salazar said all the new cases are asymptomatic and they will be retested before they will be released to their barangays.

Meanwhile, City Health Officer Dulce Amor Dagalea-Miravite said the number of Covid-19 recoveries has reached 102 with 73 new recoveries reported as of Thursday.

Of the total recovered patients, Miravite said that seven were discharged from the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC), 45 from the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC), 43 from the city government-owned Cabatangan isolation facility, three from the Zamboecozone isolation facility, two from Lantaka isolation facility, and two from the National Capital Region (NCR).

Miravite said mortalities remain at four or approximately 2.6 percent of the total Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
