ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has installed a new director of the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) based in Camp Col. Romeo Abendan in Barangay Mercedes here.
Installed as the new PRO-9 director is Brig. Gen. Jesus Cambay Jr., a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Makatao” Class of 1989, Maj. Helen Galvez, PRO-9 information officer, said.
Cambay, whose appointment took effect June 4, has replaced Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Tagapanglingkod Class of 1987, who is set to retire from the police service when he reaches the mandatory age of retirement at 56 on July 3.
Quidilla, who steered the PRO-9 during the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, has been reassigned to the office of PNP Chief, Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa.
As the PRO-9 director, Cambay will lead the 8,000-strong men and women of the command covering the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, and the cities of Isabela and Zamboanga.
Prior to his new assignment, Cambay was appointed as the Director of PNP Intelligence Group in March this year and served as the Deputy Regional Director for Administration (DRDA) and Deputy Director for Operations (DRDO) of Police Regional Office-6 (Western Visayas).
He was also designated as Commander of the Metro Boracay Task Force (MBTF) where he led the 600 police personnel of Kalibo, Aklan in the peaceful and orderly rehabilitation of Boracay Beach.
The new designation of Cambay as PRO-9 director has been approved by Gamboa upon the recommendations of the Senior Officers Placement and Promotion Board.
Cambay is a native of Lagawe, Ifugao. (PNA)
