BAGUIO CITY – A young grandmaster from Uzbekistan won the third World Grand Master (WGM) Janelle Mae Frayna Chess Tournament on Sunday over the chess game program Lichess.

The event, participated by 94 players, saw the 15-year-old Grand Master Nodirbek Abdusatorrov amass 98 points to beat GM Haik Martisoyan, 19, of Armenia for the title as the latter assembled 95 points.

Abdusatorrov and Martisoyan practically made it a two-man affair with International Master Alexandr Ulanov of Russia coming in a distant third with 81 points.

Abdusatorrow, Elo 2627, who attained the GM title at 13, the third youngest to ever do so, earned PHP5,000 for his effort in the event that drew 50 titled players.

Martisoyan, who has an Elo rating of 2617, took the bridesmaid purse of PHP3,000 with Ulanov took the PHP1,500 prize money.

Indonesian International Master Yoseph Taher finished fourth with 70 points with Serbian Dusan Popovic, who at 37 is the oldest in the top 10, finishing sixth with also 70 points.

Indonesian Vivek Verma joined the elite crowd after the titleless player from Indonesia finished with 69 points.

Women IM Dewi Ardhiani Anastassia of Indonesia was the top placed female player after a 65 point production followed Finn IM Toivo Keinanen, who amassed 61 points. Anastassia took the women’s title as well as the higher purse.

At the ninth place and the best Filipino finisher is IM Paolu Bersamina with 61 points and Uzbek IM Abdimalik Abdisalimov at 10th place.

Filipino GM Rogelio Antonio Jr. was the best-placed senior with 49 points.

Frayna, who thanked WIM Shania Mae Mendoza and Marife dela Torre for organizing the event, is the highest-rated Filipina player.

The event is a two-hour competition to win as many games as possible with a time control of three minutes. (PNA)
