MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Employees' Compensation Commission (ECC) on Monday signed a memorandum of agreement to ensure that all of its members are provided with the proper remuneration.
The ceremony was held at the Silid Lapu-Lapu inside the General Headquarters Building in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
AFP chief-of-staff, Gen. Felimon Santos Jr., led the ceremony. He was joined by Maj. Gen. Adriano S. Perez Jr., AFP deputy chief-of-staff for personnel; Maj. Gen. Ernesto C. Torres, Jr., commander of the Civil Relations Service AFP; and Brig. Gen. Benedict M. Arevalo, deputy chief-of-staff for civil-military operations.
Also present were ECC executive director Stella Zipagan-Banawis and deputy executive director, lawyer Jonathan Villasoto.
Under the agreement, continuous dialogues with AFP units, offices, and commands will be facilitated for the implementation of programs and services for military and civilian personnel.
“Through this memorandum of agreement, both the AFP and ECC will ascertain that the AFP personnel are well-informed of their rights, privileges, and benefits, which they are entitled to,” Santos said in a statement.
The ECC will conduct seminars on the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP), facilitate information exchange, and assist in the provision of services for qualified AFP personnel or their beneficiaries.
“The initiated policies and guidelines in this program ensure that privileges and benefits are received by everyone who deserves it. This is a great advantage for our soldiers that their welfare is being promoted through the ECC’s advocacies,” Santos said.
The ECC is an attached agency of the Department of Labor and Employment for policy coordination and guidance. It is mandated to ensure that every Filipino employee is well-compensated whether they work for the public or private sector.
Through various compensation programs, the ECC provides a package of benefits for employees and their dependents in the event of work-connected contingencies such as sickness, injury, disability, or death.
The memorandum of agreement will take effect upon the signing of Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana upon Santos' recommendation. (PNA)
