Coronavirus death among overseas Pinoys nears 500

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Sunday that one more Filipino abroad was infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the number of persons overseas contracting the disease to 6,141.
 
In its case bulletin, the DFA said there are 11 new recoveries and one new death in the Middle East.
 
The total number of recovered cases overseas is now 2,862, while the death toll has climbed to 496.
 
Meanwhile, a total of 2,783 Filipinos abroad are still undergoing treatment.
 
The DFA has brought home a total of 51,113 overseas Filipinos (OFs) since it began repatriating Filipinos affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in February 2020.
 
"Of this number, 57.33 percent (29,302 OFs) are sea-based and 42.67 percent (21,811 OFs) are land-based, with the most recent repatriates arriving from Japan, Norway, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE (United Arab Emirates), USA and Vietnam yesterday. This week, the DFA chartered four flights carrying 1,464 OFs from Lebanon, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Macau SAR," the DFA said.
 
Meanwhile, a total of 30 stranded OFs from India and Sri Lanka returned home safely on board BRP Davao Del Sur on June 12.
