COTABATO CITY – Mayor Reynalbert Insular, of the upland town of South Upi in Maguindanao, escaped harm when unidentified saboteurs set off a roadside bomb that hit his vehicle on Monday afternoon, police said.
Insular was not inside the black Mitsubishi pickup truck when the bomb went off past 3 p.m. at the back of the town hall, the police said in a report. The vehicle sustained minor damage.
Insular had just arrived in South Upi from Cotabato City and decided to stay home.
Police said the mayor’s driver, also unhurt, was about to park the pick-up vehicle at the back of the town hall when the bomb went off.
Insular believed he was the target of the bomb attack, the second since he was elected town mayor in 2016.
“I have no enemies,” he told reporters in a radio interview following the incident. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. (PNA)
