TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) has reported four new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Eastern Visayas, bringing the region’s total to 435.
In a press statement issued Tuesday night, DOH Eastern Visayas Director Minerva Molon, said these are locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who returned home in Leyte province and a 43-year-old policeman from Cebu assigned in the region.
The LSIs include a one-year-old girl from Tabontabon town, a 27-year-old male from Sta. Fe, and a 23-year-old female from Leyte, she added.
“The first infected cop in the region is currently isolated at a quarantine facility in the police regional office in Palo, Leyte while the LSIs at their respective local isolation facilities. If they exhibit symptoms and need further management, they will be transferred to a bigger health care facility,” she said.
Molon said they are part of the 346 swab results from the region’s two Covid-19 testing laboratories here, 278 from the state-run Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center and 68 from privately-managed Divine World Hospital.
“Our regional epidemiology and surveillance unit are now working with the concerned local government units and the Philippine National Police for the contact tracing,” she added.
To date, the region has 396 active coronavirus cases, 39 recoveries, and zero death, according to the DOH monitoring report.
The region’s confirmed cases have significantly increased since the start of June due to the testing of returning residents from Metro Manila and Cebu as well as overseas Filipino workers. (PNA)
