BALIWAG, Bulacan – The municipal government here is promoting the use of a high-technology contact tracing application that uses a Quick Response or QR code that will be displayed in every establishment to ramp up the fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Mayor Ferdie Estrella said the "IAMSAFE" is a type of contact tracing platform developed by the municipal information and communications technology office (MICTO).

Estrella said the main object of the application is to accelerate local government data gathering and monitoring, especially the health of the residents and foreign visitors.

“IAMSAFE will serve as the new logbook for every establishment in Baliwag, as part of the government's safety protocol, and for the safety and well-being of every citizen,” he said.

Brainard Ardoña, head of the MICTO, said everyone could use the IAMSAFE.

The people will just have to go to the website iamsafe.baliwag.gov.ph to create an account and screenshot the provided QR or bar code, which will be displayed at every destination in town, Ardoña said.

The Covid-19 Task Force here has strongly advised the townsfolk to follow the government's designated minimum health standards but should not limit themselves to wearing a face mask every time they go out, hand washing, and maintenance of physical distancing.

Estrella also called for the cooperation and solidarity of every citizen, especially during the pandemic, to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease. (PNA)
