ILOILO CITY – The number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) positives in Western Visayas has increased to 324 as 17 new cases were reported by the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6) on Tuesday.
“As of June 30, 2020, we have 1,135 laboratory results from Western Visayas Medical Center sub-national laboratory and Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital Molecular Laboratory. So far, this is the highest (laboratory results) from our two laboratories,” Dr. Renilyn Reyes, head of the DOH-CHD 6's Public Health Development Program, said in a virtual press conference.
The 17 new cases are composed of seven locally stranded individuals (LSIs), seven repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), one Authorized Personnel Outside Residence (APOR), and two locals.
Except for the two locals who are both admitted in separate hospitals, the rest of the new cases are under facility quarantines.
The provinces of Antique, Negros Occidental, and Iloilo recorded two cases each; six were logged from this city; and five from Bacolod City.
“For the entire Western Visayas, 324 is the total Covid-19 cases; 181 of these are active,” Reyes said.
Active cases are those who have not yet recovered from the disease.
The recoveries of the region, meanwhile, have increased to 132 after the six new recoveries logged on Monday.
The new recoveries include a 40-year-old male from Sagay City, a 19-year-old female from Cauayan, a 38-year-old female from Binalbagan -- all of Negros Occidental; and a 37-year-old male from Bacolod City.
A 30-year-old male from Igbaras and a 22-year-old male from Lambunao, both from Iloilo province, are also among the new recoveries. The region’s Covid-19 deaths still at 11.
Meanwhile, the two local cases are a medical doctor from Barbaza, Antique, and a nurse assigned at the Iloilo St. Paul’s Hospital.
The additional cases raised the affected medical front-liners to 25.
Of the cases, 15 are still considered active and composed of nine medical doctors, two nurses, one medical technologist, and three midwives. (PNA)
