ZAMBOANGA CITY – The local Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) coronavirus disease (Covid-19) said the number of Covid-19 cases here have increased to 217 as three more new cases were recorded on Tuesday.

This came amid the declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte placing the city under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) from general community quarantine (GCQ) beginning July 1.

The local IATF said the results for the new cases--ZC215, ZC216, and ZC217--came out late Tuesday.

In a health bulletin Wednesday, the local IATF said ZC215 is a 76-year-old female from Barangay San Roque who was admitted at a private hospital on June 27 with acute coronary syndrome with pneumonia and bronchial asthma.

ZC216, on the other hand, is described as a 42-year-old man from Suterville, Barangay San Jose Gusu, who was admitted at a private hospital on June 27 with admitting diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia.

ZC216 expired on June 28 with final diagnosis of acute respiratory failure, community-acquired pneumonia, and chronic kidney disease due to hypertension. The collection of specimens was done on the day of ZC216’s admission.

The patient is the sixth confirmed Covid-19 death, the local IATF said.

Meanwhile, ZC217 is a 69-years-old man from Suterville, Barangay San Jose Gusu who was admitted at a private hospital on June 28, who was diagnosed with the cerebrovascular disease with diabetes as co-morbidity.

Patients ZC215 and ZC217 have been transferred to the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) Covid-19 referral hospital.

Contact tracing is ongoing to determine who are the people that came into contact with the latest three Covid-19 cases.

The task force has advised the public anew to comply with quarantine rules and to practice minimum health standards: wear a mask, frequently wash hands, and limit movements to essential activities only.

Of the total cases, 39 are classified as active, with 172 recoveries and six deaths. (PNA)
