MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato – Health officials in North Cotabato has confirmed that a three-year-old boy from the province has been tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

“He is the youngest Covid-19 positive case recorded so far in the province,” Dr. Philbert Malaluan, speaking for the North Cotabato Inter-Agency task Force on Covid-19, said on Friday.

The patient is the 13th reported confirmed case in the area, he added.

The child, also the 84th confirmed case in the region, is from this town and currently confined at the isolation facility of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City.

The DOH-12 (Soccsksargen) tracker report dated Thursday said the patient is still awaiting a PH number.

Malaluan said the patient was first confined at the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center in Cotabato City and was discharged after he got well for his congenital heart disease.

However, the child fell ill again, prompting the family to bring him to the SPMC last July 6. The patient immediately underwent swab testing and confirmed positive on Thursday.

“We are now investigating the patient’s exposure, as well as contact tracing to control the spread of the disease”, Malaluan said.

He said the child’s 92-year-old grandfather is also currently being tested at SPMC while the entire family here remains under close monitoring by local medical personnel. (PNA)
