MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday confirmed that a sexual harassment complaint was filed against a former Filipino Ambassador to South Korea.
The agency did not identify the envoy but said the Philippine embassy in Seoul received the complaint in February when the latter was in Manila on official business.
The complaint was then referred to the DFA, which tasked its Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) to look into the allegation.
"The Department is committed to ensuring that justice is rendered in this case. It also remains committed to cultivating and preserving a work environment where all personnel are treated with respect and dignity, and free from harassment of any kind," it said in a media statement.
The department said both the complainant and the former diplomat cooperated with the proceedings conducted by the investigating Committee.
The agency said the ambassador tendered his resignation from the service effective March 16.
On Friday, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported that the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has placed the Filipino official on its watch list "for alleged harassment of a South Korean woman" while serving in South Korea last December. (PNA)
