Covid-19 cases in Western Visayas surpass 1K mark

ILOILO CITY – Total confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Western Visayas already reached 1,036 with new 76 positive results released by four laboratory centers in the region.

In its Covid-19 case bulletin No. 121 released Saturday night, the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6) also tested positive for Covid-19 two authorized persons outside of residence (APOR) tagged in Bulacan and Dumaguete City.

The highest cases of confirmed Covid-19 infections on Saturday were from Negros Occidental with 25 locally stranded individuals (LSIs), five returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and one local case, and Bacolod City with 24 local cases and three LSIs.

Capiz has five cases composed of four LSIs and one ROF; Iloilo with three LSIs, three ROFs and three local cases and Iloilo City with three ROFs and one local case.

The regional health office released a total of 1,314 laboratory results on Saturday. Twenty-eight of the new confirmed cases were from the 256 results released by the Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital Molecular Laboratory; 27 from the 113 results from the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital Molecular Laboratory; 12 from 647 results from the Western Visayas Medical Center sub-national laboratory; and 11 from the 298 results from the Qualimed Hospital Molecular Laboratory.

For two consecutive days, Bacolod City posted the highest number of local cases.

In an interview on July 25, Dr. Sophia Pulmones, chief for local health support division of the DOH-CHD 6 said most of the local cases are closed contacts of previously confirmed local cases.

She added that the local government of Bacolod City has also implemented partial lockdown in affected areas to limit the movement of people.

Four of the new cases are admitted in hospitals, four are under home quarantine and the rest are being quarantined in a facility.

The 76 new confirmed cases in Western Visayas brought the region’s active cases to 424.

The active cases are composed of 293 locally stranded individuals and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), 23 from lloilo province, 28 from Negros Occidental, 64 from Bacolod City, and 16 from Iloilo City.

Of the 1,036 total cases, 88 percent or 912 cases are asymptomatic, 4 percent or 38 have severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and 86 or 8 percent have manifested influenza-like illness (ILI).

Nonetheless, 57 percent or 596 of the cases have recovered with 26 new recoveries over the weekend.

The recoveries are composed of 10 LSIs, one ROF and one local case from Iloilo province; eight LSIs, two ROF and two local cases from Negros Occidental; and one ROF from Bacolod City and one local case from Iloilo City.
