SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The municipality of Tibiao in this province will inaugurate its PHP2.3-million newly-completed fire station on Wednesday.

The new fire station is located at Barangay Malabor built in a lot provided by the local government and funded by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), said Fire Office 2 Vilmarie Pagunsan in an interview on Tuesday.

“The fire station is already the 15th station in the province,” she said.

Pagunsan also said the Tibiao Municipal Fire Station is the fourth typical fire station to be constructed in the province.

The three others are in Tobias Fornier inaugurated in May 2016, San Remigio in October 2016, and San Jose de Buenavista in November 2017.

“Its façade and structural design are according to the design made by the national headquarters,” she said.

Before the new building, only a space at the municipal hall serves as their fire station.

“There were only two Municipal Fire Prevention Officers (MFPOs) who were assigned to implement the programs of the BFP except for firefighting,” she said.

These MFPOs only implemented fire safety awareness, inspection, and collection of Fire Code fees.

“With the fire station now there will be a firetruck with nine personnel assigned who would also do firefighting,” she said.

She said that SFO1 Alfredo N. Ortiaga, Jr. will serve as the officer-in-charge Municipal Fire Marshal in Tibiao.

The inauguration of the new building will be led by BFP Regional Director S/Supt. Jerry D. Candido.

Currently, three of the 18 municipalities of the province are still without fire stations.

These are the municipalities of Hamtic and Anini-y, although they are ready with required 400-square meter lot donation, and Caluya, which is still looking for space where the fire station will be constructed. (PNA)
