DUMAGUETE CITY – Two suspected drug personalities were arrested in separate anti-illegal drug operations in Negros Oriental that led to the seizure of an aggregate total of some PHP3.5-million suspected shabu.

Operatives arrested a “high-value” suspected drug pusher and seized about half a kilogram of suspected shabu during a joint buy-bust operation at a low-cost housing project in Barangay Cadawinon in this capital city.

A police report said the suspect, Jimmy Cañete Tanilon, 27, a resident of Cadawinonan Housing, was arrested around 10:24 p.m. Tuesday in that outskirts village by joint operatives of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) here.

The operatives seized from the suspect three pieces of big plastic packs, one medium-sized plastic pack, and one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing suspected shabu weighing more or less 500 grams, with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of PHP3.4 million.

Also confiscated were three pieces of PHP1,000 bill used in the buy-bust and a digital weighing scale.

The suspect had previously availed of a plea-bargaining following his arrest for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 last year.

Meanwhile, another suspected drug personality was arrested in another operation hours earlier in Purok 3, Barangay Boloc-boloc, Sibulan town.

The suspect was identified as Engelbert C. Estrella, 37, a resident of the said village.

A PDEA report said confiscated from Estrella were 14 sachets of suspected shabu, weighing more or less 10 grams with an estimated market value of PHP68,000.

Charges for violation of RA 9165 are now being readied against the detained suspects. (PNA)
