CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) turned over on Thursday a new off-site dormitory that will provide temporary shelter to medical personnel of the Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (JBLMGH) here.

Undersecretary Emil Sadain, head of the DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of National and Local Health Facilities formed by Secretary Mark Villar, led the turnover of the completed dorm facility to the JBLMGH management headed by Medical Center chief, Dr. Monserrat Chichioco.

Also present were Department of Health (DOH) Director, Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, and members of DPWH Task Force, namely Bureau of Construction Director Eric Ayapana and Assistant Director Edgardo Garces, and Bureau of Design officer-in-charge, Director Aristarco Doroy.

As one of the major designated health facilities with capabilities to admit coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, Villar approved the recommendation of Sadain to build an off-site dormitory at JBLMGH for doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel who are working long and grueling hours in attending to patients.

“Our DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of National and Local Health Facilities ensured that each of the air-conditioned rooms is equipped with double-decker beds for two persons with toilet and water heater for their safety and comfort," Villar said in a statement.

The newly-completed dormitory with16 rooms for 32 health-care workers, is made of modular components, fabricated with middle space intended as living room and common dining of front-liners. It also has a separate area for laundry and kitchen with available appliances.

“This is DPWH’s way of showing our support to health care workers of JBLMGH who are providing lifesaving care to patients, including referred employees of our department with symptoms and confirmed Covid-19 cases,” Sadain said.

Chichioco expressed her gratitude to DPWH for the off-site dormitory facility as it will keep safe the JBLMGH medical doctors and staff.

JBLMGH caters to the people of Central Luzon with Pampanga as its primary-served area and the nearby provinces of Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Tarlac, Zambales and Aurora as secondary areas. (PNA)
