ZAMBOANGA CITY--Authorities arrested five drug suspects in separate anti-drug operations in this city and in nearby Zamboanga Sibugay province, officials said Friday.

Four of the five suspects were newly-identified while the other one is wanted for the crime of robbery with homicide, said Capt. Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer.

Duco identified them as AL-Sharif Maman, 18; Anton Sawadjaan, 20; Benjie Tan, 28; and Sarna Bani, 30.

They were arrested in a buy-bust operation around 1 p.m. Thursday at Zone III, Barangay Tumaga here, and yielded some 13 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP89,000 and PHP200 marked money, Duco said.

Emerson Margate, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional director, identified the other suspect as Mohammad Maule, who was arrested by a joint PDEA and police team in a buy-bust operation around 6:45 p.m. Thursday in Purok Kayatian, Barangay Baluran, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Margate said Maule was caught in possession of some PHP272 worth of suspected shabu and buy-bust money. The suspect also has a standing warrant of arrest for robbery with homicide.

The two officials said that the suspects were detained while charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them. (PNA)
