6 Zambo-based marine troopers infected with Covid-19

ZAMBOANGA CITY--The military command here has imposed "clustered lockdown" on its naval headquarters after six marine troopers were found positive of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Maj. Arvin John Encinas, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) spokesperson, said Friday the Combat Service Support Battalion (CSSB) at the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) headquarters in Barangay Calarian here, was placed on lockdown amid an ongoing contact tracing to determine the individuals who came into contact with the six marine troopers.

The CSSB facility is being occupied by a unit of the Philippine Marines.

Encinas said that one of the six Marine troopers is a mess sergeant who frequently goes out of the camp to acquire provisions of the CSSB personnel. The other five are office personnel.

He said that four of the six infected marine troopers are now in the NFWM's isolation facility while the remaining two were admitted at a local private hospital.

He added that the four placed in the isolation facility are in stable condition.

Other precautionary measures are being adopted aside from the imposition of clustered lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at the camp, the Army official said. (PNA)
