DAVAO CITY – The city government launched Wednesday the "Aktibo Dabawenyo", an online health and wellness program for Dabawenyos to remain fit while staying at home.

In a statement, the City Sports Office (CSO) said "Aktibo Dabawenyo" provides a three-minute video weekly containing fitness information that the viewers can do at home using things available in their homes.

The videos are uploaded on the City Government of Davao Facebook Page.

CSO also invited fitness experts such as physical therapists and nutritionists to participate in the initiative so that they can impart their expertise on proper exercise regimens and the ideal calorie intake to achieve optimum health.

City sports officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera said they launched the program to respond to the new normal, enabling residents to stay fit even with reduced physical activities at home.

"We become less mobile, less active because we are just at home. So we decided to bring the program to you," he said.

He added that CSO needs to adopt the new normal way of the fitness lifestyle as many sports activities and events like Ironman 70.3 are postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"This is the new normal for Davao. Let's get Dabawenyos to exercise in their homes," Aportadera said. (PNA)
