BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Health in the Caraga Region (DOH-13) reported a 57-percent recovery rate from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.

DOH-13 director Jose R. Llacuna Jr. on Wednesday (August 5) said the region has a total number of 336 confirmed cases as of August 4, with 193 recoveries, 142 active cases, and one death.

New confirmed cases were also reported by DOH-13 on Tuesday with the arrival of the 155 Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) results from Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), the Northern Mindanao TB Reference Center (NMTBR), and Davao One World Diagnostic Center sub-national laboratories.

Of the total results received, Llacuna said 143 tested negative while 12 turned positive for the virus.

Of the 12 new cases, seven are Locally-Stranded Individuals (LSIs), one is a Returning Overseas Filipino (ROF), two are classified as local transmission, one is a close contact of a previous Covid-19 positive case, and another one a resident of Bayugan City who is currently employed in Butuan City.

“Eleven of the new cases are asymptomatic while only one case has exhibited mild signs and symptoms. Moreover, those who are symptomatic are isolated at identified isolation facilities region-wide for strict monitoring and management whereas the lone case with the mild symptom is admitted to a hospital facility,” Llacuna said.

He added that DOH-13 will continuously monitor the status of the cases in the different areas of the region while the area is placed under the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) with some barangays in Butuan City under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

“Our goal is to reduce local transmission cases in a two-week period in these critical areas and contain Covid-19 cases among LSIs and ROFs by strictly following isolation and quarantine procedures,” Llacuna said.

He reiterated his call to the residents in the Caraga Region to firmly observe and follow health protocols and go out only for work with facemasks at all times and the observance of physical distancing. (PNA)
