SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The province has logged two additional confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Wednesday.

“One confirmed patient is from Sibalom town and the other one is from San Jose de Buenavista,” said Dr. Leoncion Abiera, Jr., Provincial Health Officer 1 at the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), in a press conference Wednesday.

He said the confirmed case from Sibalom is confined in a hospital in Iloilo City.

Before the confinement in Iloilo City, Abiera said the patient had his dialysis at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital and the Antique Medical Center.

Both health facilities are temporarily locked down for disinfection.

The Sibalom Rural Health Unit (RHU) was also placed on lockdown because the patient has a family member who works in the facility.

“Eighteen family members including health workers at the two hospitals and the RHU had been identified as close contacts of the patient,” he said.

Abiera said the patient could have acquired Covid-19 through local transmission.

Sibalom Mayor Gian Carlo Occeña, in an official statement, said the patient is a 67-year-old male with co-morbidity.

“As part of the hospital routine, an RT-PCR test was done on August 3, 2020,” the mayor said. The positive result was released on August 4.

In another statement, San Jose de Buenavista Mayor Elmer Untaran said their new Covid-19 case is a 45- year- old male, who is a locally stranded individual (LSI) from Taguig City.

A specimen was collected from the patient on July 31 after his arrival on July 28. The result came out the evening of August 4.

IPHO Information Officer Irene Dulduco said the province now has six Covid-19 active cases, with two cases each from Sibalom and San Remigio; and one each in the towns of Libertad and San Jose de Buenavista.

At present, the province has a total of 27 cases with 21 recoveries. (PNA)
