49 more overseas Filipinos recover from Covid-19: DFA

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday reported 49 new recoveries among Filipinos with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East/Africa, raising the total to 5,730.

However, 20 new infections were also added, including two new fatalities in the Middle East.

In its latest case count, DFA said the overall tally now stands at 9,627 while the death toll is at 695.

Earlier, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Brigido Dulay also confirmed the first reported Filipino national to die of Covid-19 in Libya.

As of this posting, 3,202 Filipinos are still undergoing treatment across the globe -- 260 in the Asia Pacific, 504 in Europe, 2,298 in the Middle East/Africa, and 140 in the Americas.

"With various issues and unprecedented concerns faced by our nationals abroad due to Covid-19, the DFA remains steadfast in promoting and protecting the welfare of our fellow Filipinos, whenever and wherever possible," the agency said. (PNA)
