ILOILO CITY – Active coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Western Visayas already reached 918 as per Bulletin No. 132 released by the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6) on Thursday.

In Thursday’s virtual presser, DOH-CHD 6 spokesperson Dr. Renilyn Reyes said the region has 92 new confirmed cases, 34 recoveries, and two mortalities.

The results raised the region’s total cumulative Covid-19 confirmed cases to 1,794 with 852 total recoveries and 24 mortalities.

The new confirmed Covid-19 cases are from the 1,861 laboratory results released by four Covid-19 laboratories in the region. Reyes said 1,757 of the results were negative, 11 were repeat positive and 93 were new confirmed positive. One positive case, however, was tagged to another region.

Reyes said that of the 92 new cases, two are authorized persons outside of residence (APOR), 39 are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), three are returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), and 48 are local cases. Other cases are the 37 from Negros Occidental; 32 from Iloilo City; 16 from Iloilo province; four from Bacolod City; and one each from Aklan, Antique and Capiz.

“Our 918 active cases is 51 percent of the total cumulative cases. “Forty-eight percent of our cumulative cases have already recovered,” Reyes said.

Of the active cases, 68 percent is comprised of locally stranded individuals (LSIs), returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), and authorized persons outside of residence; while 32 percent is local.

“We have increasing local cases here in Western Visayas especially in the two highly urbanized areas. With regards to the level of transmission whether low, moderate or high risk, we still have to look at the different geographical location in the clustering of cases and related institutional clustering to know the degree of transmission,” Reyes said.

The two mortalities were both residents of Iloilo City -- a 78-year-old female from the city proper and a 69-year-old male from Molo district. "Both of them have co-morbidities,” Reyes said. (PNA)
