ZAMBOANGA CITY--The government-owned Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) will increase its bed capacity by 100 percent for patients afflicted with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The ZCMC has been designated as the Covid-19 referral center for this city and of the nearby provinces.

Dr. Justin Paber, ZCMC spokesperson, said Friday the bed capacity will be increased to 104 from the present 41-bed capacity amid the continuous surge in Covid-19 cases here.

The local Inter-Agency Task Force Covid-19 said this city’s total number of Covid-19 cases soared to 675 with 301 active cases as of Wednesday, August 5.

Paber said they will also hire new nurses and medical technologists to cope with the needed number of personnel as a result of increased bed capacity.

Meanwhile, Paber assured that it was still safe for other patients in seeking consultation at ZCMC as they strictly observe health and safety protocols.

The local IATF said the number of patients who recovered from Covid-19 has increased to 352, as six additional recoveries were recorded.

The number of mortalities, meanwhile, increased to 22 as of Wednesday. (PNA)
