LEGAZPI CITY – Some parts of the Bicol University (BU) campus here have been closed for disinfection while some of its personnel were asked to go on a 14-day home quarantine after an employee of BU's internet service provider was tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“Upon the recommendation of the Bicol University Covid-19 Task Force, the Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO) employees with primary contact with the Covid positive shall undergo home quarantine for 14 days unless the City Government of Legazpi requires that they be placed under the LGU (local government unit)-supervised quarantine facility such as the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation (ICR) or a duly accredited private hotel,” BU president Arnulfo Mascariñas said in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that the university employees shall be required to undergo swab testing on the eighth day after their exposure to the worker of the internet service provider.
"Further, the ICTO employees with secondary contact are advised to be on work from home arrangement for 14 days and are further advised to report to their Barangay Health Emergency Response,” he added.
Mascariñas said if they would manifest coronavirus symptoms, the workers are advised to contact either the local health authorities or the BU Medical Services.
He also said all the facilities and buildings in the College of Science and College of Nursing have been immediately closed for three days for disinfection along with the BU Dormitory.
Transactions in the offices and with all personnel in these buildings have been canceled and all personnel and staff have been advised to work from home, Mascariñas said.
“We appeal to the Bicol University family, particularly our students, faculty, and personnel, including our stakeholders, partners, and the general public to refrain from spreading half-truths and innuendos that can only heighten the effect of fear, undue anxiety, and misinformation. Let us continue praying for the safety and protection of everyone, most especially those afflicted with Covid-19,” he said. (PNA)
