BALER, Aurora -- This municipality has logged its first coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) case, breaking the province's five-month virus-free situation.

Mayor Rhett Ronan Angara, in his social media account, said the Covid-19 patient is a locally stranded individual from Pasay City.

Angara, however, did not disclose the age and gender of the patient.

He said the patient returned home to this town last August 4 and underwent strict home quarantine.

Last Aug. 9, the patient was brought to the Aurora Memorial Hospital after fainting, underwent a swab test the following day, and the positive result was released on Aug. 12.

“The patient was brought to the Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija for treatment and isolated,” Angara said.

He immediately ordered a thorough contact tracing and the enforcement of stricter health and safety protocols.

The mayor said there is no reason to panic as the government is exerting its fullest efforts to combat Covid-19.

“We can combat Covid-19 by following the protocols set by the government such as by wearing face masks and observing safe physical distancing,” he said.

Governor Gerardo Noveras, meanwhile, said that concerned government agencies are conducting contact tracing to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease.

He asked his constituents for full cooperation and discipline in order to prevent the spread of the virus in the province. (PNA)
