ANGELES CITY, Pampanga –This city will require the wearing of face shields in all public places starting on Saturday.

City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin, Jr. issued a memorandum on Thursday requiring all individuals visiting malls, public markets, establishments, and other public areas to wear face shields aside from face masks.

Lazatin said the move is one of the measures to be implemented in the city to curb the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Last August 3, the mayor ordered the stricter implementation of the city’s Covid-19 health and safety protocols by issuing Ordinance 546 which penalizes individuals not wearing face masks, bringing quarantine passes, and loitering outside of their homes.

Since its implementation, the city government and barangay officials have been doing daily rounds of inspection in 33 barangays, and other public areas in the city, to give citation tickets to individuals caught not following the facemask and loitering policies.

The penalty for first-time violators is PHP1,000.

As of August 13, out of the 571 violators, 169 have been compliant, and have already paid their fines. 402 violators have yet to report and pay for their penalty.

He urged all Angelenos to do their part in preventing the further spread of Covid-19.

“Pakiusap po, huwag nang lumabas ng bahay kung hindi naman importante ang gagawin. Magsuot tayo ng face masks at dalhin ang quarantine passes sa tuwing lalabas ng bahay. Iwasan na rin natin ang pagtambay sa labas ng bahay at pagdalo sa social gatherings. Sama-sama pa rin po tayo sa laban na ito (Please do not leave the house unless it is important to do so. Let us wear face masks and carry quarantine passes every time we leave the house. Let us also avoid hanging out and attending social gatherings. We are together in this fight),” Lazatin said in a video message.

To date, this city has 137 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 73 of which are currently active. (PNA)
