MANILA – The Masbate Airport sustained no damage despite the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that jolted the province on Tuesday morning, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesperson Eric Apolonio said.
"As reported by our area manager, there were no damages, and it (airport) was not affected. In fact, it is operational today," Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
He said the Masbate Airport caters to chartered flights and military aircraft.
At 8:03 a.m., a magnitude 6.6 tectonic quake hit the province, with its epicenter recorded at 7 km. southeast of the municipality of Cataingan.
Intensity VII, which the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) describes as "destructive", was felt in Cataingan, Masbate.
Intensity V was felt in the city of Masbate and Almagro and Tagapul-an in Samar, while Intensity IV was felt in Palanas and San Jacinto, Masbate; City of Sorsogon; City of Legazpi, Albay; San Andres, Quezon; Mapanas and Palapag, Northern Samar; Barugo, Dagami, Dulag, Julita, La Paz, Palo, and Tanauan, Leyte; and City of Sagay, Negros Occidental.
