MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will conduct an assessment of infrastructures in areas of the Visayas affected by the 6.6-magnitude earthquake that struck the province of Masbate on Tuesday.

“DPWH has deployed teams to assess structural integrity, damages of key infrastructure in the Visayas due to the (6.6) magnitude earthquake,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said in a Facebook post.

The teams will assess the damage of the tremors to buildings, roads, and bridges in affected areas.

Villar, meanwhile, urged the public to report to them through their hotline number, any information on the damage or inspection requests in connection with the earthquake.

“Our hotline number, 165-02, is open 24/7 for reports, inspection requests, and rescue operations on damaged infrastructure brought about by the recent earthquake,” Villar added.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the epicenter of the earthquake seven kilometers southwest of Cataingan town in Masbate.

The tremor, which struck at 8:03 a.m., was also felt in the province of Quezon and parts of the Bicol Region. (PNA)
