AFP SolCom units help in Masbate quake relief efforts

MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), through its Southern Luzon Command (Solcom), is now supporting government humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts following the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that hit Cataingan, Masbate on Tuesday.

"SolCom has provided aircraft for rapid damage and needs assessment operations. HADR and medical teams from the 9th Infantry Division and Headquarters SolCom were also alerted and ready to be deployed for possible search-and-rescue operation," AFP public affairs office chief Navy Capt. Jonathan Zata said in a message to the Philippine News Agency on Thursday.

He added that the military is constantly coordinating with the affected local government units and the Office of Civil Defense regarding the aid the AFP can provide.

"The AFP through the SolCom is in constant coordination with the local government units and the Office of Civil Defense to provide necessary equipment and manpower," Zata said.

He added that the assistance aims to ensure the safety of all residents in the affected areas, as well as assist in relief and rehabilitation efforts. (PNA)
