MANILA – An official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Friday said the New Testament Pinoy version of the Bible was published for the younger generation to better understand God's words.
Bishop Sofronio Bancud, chairman of the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate (ECBA), said the new version was created to spread the gospel, particularly to the youth.
“The purpose in coming up with such translation, so that it can reach to everyone and it also targeting young Filipinos,” he said in an interview over Church-run Radio Veritas.
The Cabanatuan prelate added that it is important for the people to easily understand the word of God since there are instances that the youth have a hard time understanding the classic translations used in the Bible.
He said the New Testament Pinoy version, where the words used are in Tagalog and English, is the same as the classic version.
“Actually, there are no differences; the main purpose is to reach the people especially the youth, for them to hear, understand, to better appreciate and then to reflect the word of God,” the Catholic bishop.
In 2018, the Philippine Bible Society launched the new version of the Bible where they are targeting the millennial generation.
The new version of the Bible was in the news after it recently went viral on the social media page of St. Paul's Bookstore.
“To the official liturgist o liturgy, we have used official translations,” Bacud added. (PNA)
