BALER, Aurora – This capital town of Aurora province has recorded the second case of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) after a person deprived of liberty (PDL) turned positive in a swab test conducted by the Department of Health (DOH).

Mayor Rhett Ronan T. Angara said the PDL is a native of Casiguran town and was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Rodriguez, Rizal, and brought to this town.

Angara said the PDL was required to undergo a swab test on August 19 and the positive result came out on Wednesday.

“Muli po, ikinalulungkot ng LGU Baler na ipaalam na meron po tayong kinakaharap na isa na namang kaso ng nagpositive sa Covid 19 sa ating bayan (Again, the LGU Baler is sad to inform you that we have another one  positive case of Covid-19 in our town),” he said.

Last Aug. 12, the first Covid-19 case was recorded here after a locally stranded individual from Pasay City returned home to this town.

The mayor said contact-tracing was immediately conducted.

At present, he said that those who were exposed to the PDL are at the Aurora Trading Center (ATC) Compound in Barangay Calabuanan here and being closely monitored by the DOH, rural health unit, and Philippine National Police.

A temporary zoning containment within a 50-meter radius from ATC took effect on Wednesday night to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the Municipal Inter-Agency Task Force (MIATF) was conducted on Thursday for the formulation of action plans to control and prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

Captain Ferdinand B. Usita, chief of police of the Baler Police Station, also announced the implementation of curfew effective Friday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (PNA)
