BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) continued to rise in this province, with 27 new infections reported on Tuesday for a total tally of 948.

Governor Albert Garcia on Wednesday said contact tracing showed that 25 of the 27 new cases got infected after they came in close contact with those earlier tested positive of the virus.

Of the 25 new cases, Garcia said 23 are from Mariveles, one from this city and one from Limay.

A 42-year old male health worker from Mariveles was among them, he said.

The governor also said that the two other confirmed cases who are both in-patients at a hospital in Bataan, are from Pilar town.

Meanwhile, the number of those who have recovered from coronavirus increased to 559 with the addition of eight — two from Abucay, three from Hermosa including a nine-year-old boy; two from Limay, and one from Bagac.

The active cases, on the other hand, is 372 while the number of fatalities remained at 17.

From 13,604 who have undertaken Covid-19 tests, 948 were positive, 12,505 tested negative, and 151 are still waiting for the results. (PNA)
