The Department of Health - Soccsksargen Covid-19 tracker report as of Sept. 10, 2020.

COTABATO CITY – The Department of Health in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) recorded on Thursday 72 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the highest single-day count so far.

The new cases brought Soccsksargen's total cases since March this year at 786, surpassing the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s (BARMM) 759 cases for the same period.

Of the 72 new Soccsksargen cases, 29 patients were from General Santos City, 23 from South Cotabato, 12 from Cotabato City, five from Sultan Kudarat, two from North Cotabato, and one from Sarangani.

Arjohn Gangoso, speaking for DOH-Soccsksargen, said that the 12 new cases in this city included a five-year-old boy.

“With the additional dozen cases, Cotabato City now has a cumulative tally of 96 confirmed cases with 50 recoveries and one fatality who is a fish vendor,” Gangoso said.

Following the death here on Tuesday evening of the 52-year-old fish vendor who recently visited the General Santos City fish port, Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi has ordered the focused lockdown of Barangay Poblacion 6 where the patient resided.

“Eight of the 12 new cases in Cotabato City were from Barangay Poblacion 6,” Gangoso said. In Midsayap, Cotabato province, provincial officials said a local transmission occurred after a trader and his son were exposed to three people who eventually became positive of Covid-19.

The father and son traders traveled to Davao City and complained of sore throat, fever, and other symptoms of Covid-19 a few days later.

“This is a form of transmission wherein the source of the infection has been identified and confined to a small area,” Board Member Philbert Malaluan, speaking for North Cotabato Inter-Agency Task Force on Covid-19, said.

“This is very different from a widespread form of local transmission wherein we cannot identify the source and the area of infection is much more spread out,” Malaluan, a medical doctor, added.

Malaluan said all close family members of North Cotabato’s Patient No. 61 (trader) and his business employees are now under quarantine.

North Cotabato province has a cumulative number of 75 confirmed Covid-19 cases with 21 active patients and 52 recoveries. (PNA)
