ILOILO CITY – Fifty-five percent of the 7,955 confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Western Visayas have already recovered based on a situation report of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD6) on Wednesday.

The total recoveries are now at 4,404 as opposed to the total active infections in the region, which is 3,423 cases or 43 percent, said Dr. Jane Juanico, DOH-CHD6 infectious disease cluster head, in a press conference.

The recovered patients included the 137 new recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 216 new cases were recorded on Sept. 15 comprising 207 local cases, six locally stranded individuals (LSIs), two authorized persons outside of residence (APOR), and one returning overseas Filipino (ROF).

Of the active cases, 2,006 are on facility quarantine, 312 are admitted, 758 are on home quarantine while 347 are still for verification.

The case fatality rate of the region is now at 124, including the four new deaths verified in the last 24 hours.

“Almost 80 percent of our cases are local cases. If you look into the current active cases, local cases account to 94 percent and the rest are LSI, ROFs or APOR,” she said.

In her presentation, Juanico highlighted the decline in the average number of cases this month, with an average of 91 infections per day as against the 139 daily average last August.

She said the increased number of cases of Covid-19 in the region was monitored starting in June with an average of 16 cases a day and 37 daily infections in July.

The rise in cases was particularly noted in the region’s two highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

“For Iloilo City, the current active case officially reported to the national office is 457 with recovery of 1,131 and 34 deaths. Their current average rate for the month of September is eight cases per day,” she said.

Bacolod City has 1,564 active cases and 1,225 recoveries and 35 deaths. Its current daily average case is 38. (PNA)
