The Department of Health – Soccsksargen Covid-19 tracker report as of Sept. 17, 2020.

COTABATO CITY – Twenty-eight of the 41 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) as of Thursday evening are from this city, the Department of Health–Soccsksargen said.

Arjohn Gangoso, speaking for the Department of Health–Soccsksargen, said the increase can be attributed to the strengthened contact tracing of the Cotabato City Health Office in the past two weeks.

“We did expect this after Cotabato City locked down Barangay Poblacion 6 since last week,” Gangoso said.

Barangay Poblacion 6 has been out on lockdown since Sept. 10 to give contact tracers easy access to infected people after a fish vendor from the area died of Covid-19 on Sept. 8.

The city has also registered four new recoveries, Gangoso said.

Other areas with new cases in Soccsksargen are North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat with five each; General Santos City (2); and South Cotabato (1).

On new recoveries, Sarangani has the most number at 18, trailed by General Santos City with five;  Cotabato City (4), Sultan Kudarat (2), and North Cotabato (1).

Since March this year, Soccsksargen recorded a total of 1,019 Covid-19 cases. Of the total, 487 have recovered for a 48 percent recovery rate. Active cases are at 512 with 19 deaths.

Of the active cases, South Cotabato is on top with 218, followed by General Santos City (113), Cotabato City (102), North Cotabato (39), Sarangani (23), and Sultan Kudarat (17). (PNA)
